The IMRG Metapack UK Delivery Index has been designed to enable the e-retail industry to track a range of key benchmark metrics for the first time including parcel volumes, order values, delivery services employed and destinations served. The data is derived from dispatches from almost 200 retailers and now represents more than 7 million orders in any single month and £5 billion order value in any 12 months.
The December 2017 IMRG Metapack UK Delivery Index covers the period to the end of November 2017 and provides year-on-year comparisons.
The volume of deliveries tracked by the IMRG Metapack Delivery Index has broken through the 300 barrier for the first time, making November the busiest delivery month in the industry’s history. As predicted, most of the UK volume was delivered on Economy services but due to the record number of deliveries overall, it is likely that express volumes were also at record levels.
For this reason, the level of on-time delivery performance is still well down on the previous two years and unless the industry can find new next day capacity or significantly increase delivery efficiency and first time hit rate for these orders, this could be the new norm.
Average order values are also at record levels, partly due to the relative weakness of sterling against other major currencies but also due to the continued confidence in online shopping shown by UK consumers.
