UK e-retailer order volumes remain steady at 16% above that of last year with an increasing proportion being sent by Specified / Next Day delivery services.
We believe that that this is due to retailer promotion and that the July and August increase in the offer of these services may be to attract and retain customers in the run up to peak.
The increase in the use of these time definite services appears to be having a detrimental impact on quality of service with failed on-time delivery, first time delivery and addressing problems all on the increase.

Cross-border delivery remains strong on the back of the weak pound which is also fuelling higher cross-border basket values, although UK orders are also performing well in this respect.
