The UK’s online order volumes are tracking exactly as we would expect at this time of year with a slight slow-down ahead of the Christmas peak. That said, we are still 12.4% up on September last year and 15.9% up on the year-to-date and taking the peak effect into account we expect to end with 17% volume growth, generating 1.33 billion orders for 2017.
Within this total, Next Day is now established as the new ‘standard’ delivery service with more than 37% of the UK’s total volume being sent on Next Day or Specified Day services.
This appears to be having some impact on the number of orders that are delivered on time or at the first attempt and throughout this year we have seen these metrics in decline.
Order values remain strong, especially to the EU where two-thirds of cross-border orders were consigned this month. The strong euro means that EU shoppers continue to get excellent value for money from UK retailers.
