New Royal Mail locker service available through MetaPack
Royal Mail have been working closely with logistics firm ByBox over the past year to deliver an exciting new innovation in home delivery in the UK. As of this autumn select online retailers will be able to offer their shoppers delivery to secure, electronic parcel lockers (“iBoxes”) at 17 mainline train stations within in London and 6 other key cities as part of a 6-month pilot. Shoppers will be notified via email or SMS as soon as their items are delivered, and will have 24/7 access to their items, which are collected by simply entering a unique PIN code provided in the SMS at the iBox. This unique delivery option will vastly improve first time delivery success, benefiting both consumers and retailers alike.Royal Mail have chosen to work with MetaPack in order to provide the iBox delivery option to the market, as the MetaPack system provides quick and pain-free access to the service for any interested retailers, by providing an off-the-shelf package that takes care of all manifest, labelling and reporting changes. The iBox delivery option will be available on the Royal Mail TrackedR 2-3 day service so is especially easy to bolt-on for retailers already offering this delivery option.
This decision follows on from the successes lockerbank delivery has had on the continent. In Germany alone almost 3,000 units are now deployed with 29% of consumers saying the availability of the banks had increased their online purchases. Other postal administrations utilising locker banks include Norway, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Denmark, France, Poland and Turkey.
