Lighting-Direct: Automating the routing process to improve efficiency

Lighting Direct ship significant volumes of parcels through a centralised despatch hub where they had to decide manually which carrier service to use, by weighing, sizing parcels and then work out the optimum route by referring to tables. They wanted to improve efficiency by automating the process and at the same time introduce additional carriers that would increase their delivery options.

The Solution

MetaPack DM was introduced to provide automation for all shipments. The software has saved both time and money by automatically allocating the shipment based on its individual profile, ensuring that the correct route is chosen every time. Busy times are no longer an issue; additional pack benches can be opened as the software allows for all carrier stationery to be produced from any printer. The software has also allowed for the introduction of additional carriers without the need to change or disrupt the process in the warehouse. An added benefit has been within the customer care team, who can now access all shipment information from one screen irrespective of who distributed the goods, this has allowed for a quicker response to every deliver query.
