Dixon Groups picks MetaPack to deliver customer promise

Dixons Group supports online sales growth by adding Royal Mail as a new carrier

15 August 2005

Dixons Group announced today that it has successfully added Royal Mail to its home delivery operation using MetaPack DMS (Delivery Management System). As a result, Dixons Group has introduced a more sophisticated service that ensures the delivery date and time promised to the customer is met.

The company says this commitment to their delivery proposition will continue to encourage online sales growth for its direct business, as customers look to purchase from brands that can provide ‘on-time delivery’, and with the introduction of more convenient delivery options, Dixons Group will also be able to significantly reduce carrier costs embedded in traditional delivery processes.

David Seeby, Head of Distribution and Supply Chain at Dixons Group, explains: "This decision forms part of our overall carrier management strategy which aims to provide a highly cost effective delivery service for all products. Dixons Group can now allocate orders under a kilo to Royal Mail using MetaPack DMS but should the goods be out of stock and the delivery date draws near, MetaPack DMS automatically selects an alternative carrier to ensure we meet the customers expectations".

MetaPack DMS uses a carrier selection method that considers the size, value, weight and postcode of the order being delivered and then selects the appropriate carrier based on the delivery promise given to the customer.

MetaPack DMS has allowed Dixons Group to fully integrate with 3 carriers and offer the broadest range of delivery options possible. Patrick Wall, CEO of MetaPack, said: "Offering a range of delivery dates and times helps to increase ‘right first time delivery. Those that invest wisely and make improvements in this area can expect increased sales conversion, better margins and reduced costs right across their operations".
