CitySprint acquires Road Runners

CitySprint, the UK’s largest privately owned SameDay distribution company has acquired the courier business of Road Runners (Swindon) Ltd.

The owners, Mike and Audrey McCartney, bought the business in 2000 and have since established it as a very successful courier company, servicing many businesses in the Swindon area.  During this time, Road Runners was voted the ‘Best Regional Courier Company of the year’ for 10 years running, by the National Couriers Association. Mike, who held Senior Management positions in a multi-national company for many years before, and Audrey who has over twenty years experience in the finance industry, have doubled the turnover of the company in the last seven years. They believe, however, that in order to effectively support customers outside of their local area, a more extensive geographic presence is required, and working with CitySprint enables them to achieve just that, as CitySprint’s nationwide presence spans 31 ServiceCentres strategically placed throughout the UK.

Existing Road Runners’ customers will benefit from improved collection and delivery times as well as national rates, made possible via CitySprint’s unique network. CitySprint operates the largest GPS enabled SameDay fleet in Europe, which allows its customers to benefit from real-time information at the touch of a button. Via the CitySprint website, customers can not only obtain quotes and book jobs, but they can also track the dedicated courier assigned to their job from the point of collection through to delivery.

The Road Runner’s courier business will be consolidated with CitySprint’s existing Swindon business. Both Mike and Audrey McCartney will continue to support the courier operation to ensure a successful transition for each of their existing clients. In addition, the Control Team will move across and more than 40 couriers will be offered the opportunity to work alongside CitySprint.

CitySprint Chief Executive, Patrick Gallagher said: “CitySprint’s infrastructure is unique in the same day courier industry and is a key element which sets us apart from the competition.  We are therefore committed to the continued growth of our business both organically and through carefully selected acquisitions, which enable us to continue to build on this valuable asset. Swindon is a prosperous industrial and commercial centre, which serves as a base for many successful national and international businesses; this acquisition further establishes our strength in the Wiltshire and Gloucestershire area”

Mike McCartney commented:  “CitySprint is both ‘national’ while at the same time being ‘local’, as far as the delivery of its service is concerned.  This acquisition is very exciting for us because it not only helps us achieve our personal objectives but it also brings many added benefits to our customers. ”
